After waiting out the cold winter months, bass anglers will once again descend upon Michigan lakes this weekend. With tackle in hand and a gleam in their eye, they'll head to both small and large lakes dreaming that this year will be the year they land a bass worthy of mounting.
“Bass anglers can't wait to hit the water, even though it's just catch and immediate release season,” said Bill Merriweather of Portage. [Note: The regular bass-fishing season doesn't open until May 29.]

The Oshkosh area is home to one of the best bodies of water in the state when it comes to fishing. Because of it, Lake Winnebago and other lakes in the system are a huge moneymaker for Oshkosh, bringing in millions of dollars every year. In fact, fishing is No. 1 in terms of what how much money it brings to the area, according to a study that looked at Winnebago, Fond du Lac, Calumet, Outagamie and Waushara counties.
